Inaugural ONE Summit Regional DayThe inaugural ONE Summit Regional Day in Vancouver, BC was a great success with over 600 in-person and virtual attendees registered to hear from their peers and industry experts about their experiences with open source networking projects and the future of networking.

Vancouver as the backdrop for open source networking

Of course, no ONE Summit event would be complete without opening remarks from LF Networking’s own Arpit Joshipura. Arpit shared ideas about how networking has evolved — and continues to evolve — and how LF Networking is evolving alongside.

Telus discusses its participation in LF Networking

We were honored and privileged to hear Sana Tariq, Principal Technology Architect, and Steve Tannock, Director, Architecture (Platform Technology & Tools), of Telus discuss their personal journeys in open source as well as how Telus developed its open source strategy. Under the leadership of Ibrahim Gideon, CTO of Telus, Sana and Steve worked to help create their Open Source Project Office and to help guide its open source strategy. In doing so, Telus is signalling that it is looking to open source to help it deliver valuable innovative services to its customers and as a way to solidify its position as a leader in open source in the Telecommunications market.

ODL 10-year anniversaryInaugural ONE Summit Regional Day

Robert Varga, CTO of PANTHEON.tech, has been involved in Open Daylight since its inception 10 years ago and has seen the ebb and flow of open source networking development. He recounted ODL’s growing pains, how it came to be one of the most important software-defined networking projects, and how it influenced the networking industry over its many releases. Today ODL continues to be a commercially available SDN: Verizon uses ODL as its directional controller, and it is actively supported by Pantheon.TECH and other vendors.

5G Super Blueprint

The 5G Super Blueprint, which originally began its life as the Virtual Central Office, now encompasses open source 5G, networking and orchestration technologies. The 5G SBP is an infrastructure for global communications providers and enterprises that require a complete solution that includes high-bandwidth, low-latency, scalable, and cost-effective open source networking infrastructure. Mudassar Ahmed, Principal Cloud & Cybersecurity Architect at Mitre, discussed the 5G Super Blueprint’s ability to meet the needs of these stakeholders and what’s in store for the future.

About ONE Summit Regional Days and The Linux Foundation Networking

ONE Summit Regional Days is a new format developed by The Linux Foundation Networking to help our community plan in-person events that are regionally focused. ONE Summit Regional Days organizers work with LF Networking to develop a schedule of sessions that can be tailored to specific topics and allow those who may not otherwise be able to travel to ONE Summit global events. For more information on ONE Summit Regional Days, you can download the PDF here. If you would like to host a ONE Summit Regional Day, please contact LF Networking via email at info@lfnetworking.org.
