The LFN community continues to solidify our role as the Collaboration Hub for open source networking, in part by forging partnerships with industry-leading organizations. We’re pleased to share that we’ve updated our formal partnerships with ETSI and NGMN and created a new collaboration (via MOU) with Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI), as part of a long-standing mission to harmonize open source and open standards. In addition, Odine has joined LFN as a General Member and is actively working with TurkCell on open solutions, further reinforcing the importance of industry cooperation in shaping the future of networking.
How we’ll work with GTI
Our partnership with GTI is a strategic step towards enhancing the development and deployment of open source networking solutions. GTI’s mission aligns with our objectives by promoting intelligent, efficient, and sustainable 5G-A technologies. Our collaboration will focus on integrating AI-driven solutions and optimizing next-generation digital infrastructure to drive commercial success.
Key elements of the partnership include:
- Mutual support for collaboration across respective communities.
- Designation of points of contact to streamline cooperative efforts.
- Coordination of public communications related to the partnership.
- A non-binding framework that outlines shared intentions without imposing formal obligations.
This collaboration will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise between LFN and GTI, ultimately accelerating the development of cutting-edge networking solutions.
LFN: the Collaboration Hub for the Open Networking Ecosystem
In addition to our work with GTI, we’ve been engaged with both ETSI and NGMN already, working towards developing OSS solutions compatible with standardization efforts (ETSI), that are focused on next-generation mobile networks. These organizations complement our mission to create interoperable, scalable, and future-proof networking solutions.
LFN collaboration with ETSI led to implementation of interfaces specified by ETSI-NFV workgroups (SOL003, SOL005) in the ONAP Project. The two-way collaboration also included sharing the ONAP ASD model for CNFs with ETSI-NFV workgroup that served as inspiration for their CNFd specification. In addition there were several LFN/ETSI-NFV modeling workshops that helped align the OSS and standardization efforts. Several concepts developed by the Nephio OSS project for Cloud Native Network Function (CNF) Orchestration found their way to ETSI’s recent evolution report. Those include the declarative approach to deploying services, adoption of modern mechanisms like GitOps and unified approach for orchestrating both the workloads and underlying cloud infrastructure.
Other LF projects such as OpenSSF are currently collaborating with ETSI on the creation of specifications around the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
By bringing together industry stakeholders, LFN provides a neutral and innovative environment where service providers, vendors, and enterprises can co-develop technologies that underpin the digital economy. The combined efforts of LFN, GTI, ETSI, and NGMN will help streamline open-source networking adoption while reducing fragmentation in the industry.
Welcome Odine to LFN
In another significant development, Odine has joined as a General Member of LFN, furthering the diversity of organizations working towards a common goal. Odine’s expertise in network transformation and cloud-native solutions will bring valuable contributions to our work.
Odine is also collaborating with TurkCell on open networking solutions, emphasizing the real-world impact of LFN’s mission. This partnership aims to develop scalable, efficient, and cost-effective networking infrastructures that leverage open-source principles. By working together, Odine and Turk Telecom are setting a benchmark for how open networking can drive innovation and operational efficiencies.
