It’s a common truth that behind every successful open source project lies the dedication of countless individuals, often unsung heroes whose contributions shape the very foundation of the technology we rely upon. We celebrate the code, the features, and the milestones, but rarely do we get to truly appreciate the people who pour their passion and expertise into making it all happen. Today, we want to shine a much-deserved spotlight on one such individual: Andreas Geißler, who is retiring from his job at Deutsche Telekom after making truly significant contributions to the ONAP open source project.

Andreas’s impact on ONAP has been nothing short of transformative. His technical leadership, particularly within OOM (ONAP Operations Manager), has been instrumental in streamlining and enhancing ONAP’s operational capabilities. He spearheaded efforts in modularizing ONAP projects, a crucial initiative that allowed for greater flexibility in development and deployment. This work alone has had a profound effect on the long-term health and adaptability of the project.

Beyond modularization, Andreas was a tireless advocate for enhancing ONAP’s security. His vision and technical prowess were key in enabling individual builds and deployments through the LFN CI/CD pipelines, including ArgoCD. This empowers developers with greater autonomy and accelerates the development cycle, ultimately leading to higher quality and faster innovation.

The ripple effect of Andreas’s contributions can be seen in the overall quality, maintainability, security, and success of the ONAP project. He didn’t just contribute. He built a stronger, more resilient foundation for the entire community.

But Andreas’s legacy extends far beyond his technical achievements. He has consistently demonstrated a collaborative spirit, a willingness to mentor fellow community members, and active engagement in community discussions and presentations. His contributions have helped foster a more inclusive and resilient open-source ecosystem, a testament to his belief in the power of shared knowledge and collective effort.

We are deeply grateful for the time and dedication Andreas has invested in ONAP. While we will certainly miss his direct contributions, we are heartened to know that Deutsche Telekom’s continued engagement will help guide the project as it evolves.

Thank you, Andreas, for everything you’ve given to the ONAP community. We wish you all the best in your retirement!
