We’re Joining Forces with GTI to Advance Intelligent and Green 5G-A Technolog

By March 4, 2025No Comments

The Linux Foundation has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GTI to help the industry accelerate the development of intelligent, efficient, and sustainable 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology. This collaboration aims to support next-generation digital infrastructure while driving 5G monetization and value creation.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The partnership will focus on multiple open source initiatives and projects, including:

  • Networking: Enhancing networking-related projects like LF Networking, CAMARA and Sylva to improve telecom infrastructure and automation.
  • LF Edge: Supporting sub-projects such as Akraino, FLEDGE, and InfiniEdge AI to advance edge computing capabilities.
  • ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange): Facilitating interoperability and AI model deployment in 5G-A networks.
  • The Open Model Initiative: Encouraging the adoption of open-source AI and machine learning models for telecom applications.

Additional Activities beyond technical collaborations include things like Joint Open Laboratory development, joint workshops and conferences/sessions, and Innovation Challenges focused on open 5G-AxAI.

A New Era for Open-Source in 5G-A

Why is this important? Because 5G-A is more than just a faster network. It’s the foundation for everything from smart cities and autonomous vehicles to the next generation of healthcare and industrial automation. And by building it on open source, we’re ensuring that it’s accessible, transparent, and sustainable.

Stay tuned for updates as these initiatives take shape and drive the future of 5G-A technology!
