SUMMARY:LFN Developer & Testing Forum
DESCRIPTION:The next LFN Developer & Testing Forum is scheduled for January 10-13\, 2022. Once again we will be virtually gathering the LFN project technical communities to progress our releases; discuss project architecture\, direction\, and integration points; and further innovate through the open source networking stack. \nWe will use a combination of online tools to create a productive and interactive virtual meeting environment. The event is free of cost and registration is required. Learn more on the event planning wiki page. Please send any questions to events@lfnetworking.org. \nParticipating projects and initiatives include the following: \n5G Super Blueprint: A community-driven integration and proof of concept involving multiple open source initiatives to show end-to-end use cases demonstrating implementation architectures for end users. The 5G Super Blueprint will cover RAN\, Edge\, and Core and enable end-to-end open source solutions for enterprises and verticals\, large institutional organizations\, and more. \nAnuket: The Anuket community will be hosting meetings exploring future development topics\, discussing operating procedures\, and fostering collaboration with other projects. \nEMCO: Edge Multi-Cluster Orchestrator (EMCO) is a software framework for intent-based deployment of cloud-native applications to a set of Kubernetes clusters\, spanning enterprise data centers\, multiple cloud service providers and numerous edge locations. It is architected to be flexible\, modular and highly scalable. It is aimed at various verticals\, including telecommunication service providers. \nEUAG: LFN’s End User Advisory Group (EUAG) serves as the representatives of the business and technical interests of the Telecom companies to the LFN Projects and community. We look forward to using the forum to collaborate with Projects and teams and help provide guidance on where the Telecom Industry is going. \nFD.io: FD.io will be discussing CSIT Performance Benchmarking\, Anomaly Detection\, Results Tracking. \nL3AF: At L3AF\, our vision is to create a marketplace for eBPF programs (Kernel Functions)\, where users and developers can share their own signed kernel functions and download kernel functions from others. Our L3AF platform can then be used to orchestrate and compose selected kernel functions from the marketplace to several business needs. In this way\, L3AF provides developers with a cloud and vendor-agnostic platform for adding capabilities to an operating system at runtime. We believe that the creation of such a fully integrated software ecosystem around eBPF will unleash its full potential for community adoption. \nODIM: ODIM coordinates with other key SDOs and open source communities\, with a focus on automation\, simplification\, consistency\, and interoperability of COTS and OSS infrastructure management solutions resulting in accelerating infrastructure deployments across segments while lowering operational complexity and cost. \nONAP: The ONAP community sessions will highlight recent achievements and milestones\, and plan for the next ones. Attendees can expect to learn about new features and capabilities in the Istanbul release\, including CNF\, enterprise use-cases and many more. Updates will be provided regarding on-going efforts in architecture\, modeling\, security\, and requirements. A big chunk of time will be dedicated to demos showing ONAP addressing real-world use cases. The planning sessions will present a unique opportunity for\ncommunity members and non-members to provide input that will shape the next releases of ONAP. \nOpenDaylight: OpenDaylight will be hosting some “how to get engaged” discussions and introduce new projects that aim to scale OpenDaylight for 2022 and into the future. \nTungsten Fabric: The Tungsten Fabric community will focus on “hands-on” development work for the next release of Tungsten Fabric\, refining the Release Process\, improving the CI/CD pipeline\, and exploring cross-community integration with projects such as ONAP\, DPDK\, and more. \nXGVela: An open source collaborative cloud native Platform as a Service (PaaS) for applications and Telco network functions\, which is to enable new services and help mobile operators to seize business opportunities from vertical industries in the 5G era. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Calico/VPP: Kubernetes networking with boosters
DESCRIPTION:Kubernetes has become the de facto solution when it comes to container networking\, providing rich functionalities and abstractions. But some class of workloads put a huge performance burden on these implementations. Think big data\, storage\, analytics\, 5G\, virtual network functions\, requiring encryption at a 40Gbps line rate\, or multiple million of packets per second. Typically applications that are used to have dedicated NICs and physical hardware. In order to address this\, we took the best of both worlds\, combining Calico\, the popular cloud native Kubernetes network plugin\, with VPP\, a very fast and scalable userspace packet processing software. In this talk we will cover how we provide line rate networking for those applications while keeping Kubernetes benefits\, and what super powers this enables us to bring to the pods. \nSpeakers: Chris Tomkins\, Developer Advocate\, Project Calico/Tigera; Nathan Skrzypczak\, Software Engineer\, Cisco \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:LFN Webinar: NFV Deployments and the Path Ahead: An Operator Perspective
DESCRIPTION:With the drive to deploy 5G\, network slicing\, and the dramatic changes in network service delivery due to the global pandemic\, 2020 was the year that many carriers started large NFV deployments; indicating the continuing maturation and acceptance of virtualized networking workloads\, NFV architectures\, and cloud infrastructures in general. As these deployments ramp up and expand\, it is time to focus on tools needed for deployment in a common\, shared\, programmable\, and automated manner. There remain significant challenges\, however\, to achieving this vision. \nThe LFN End User Advisory Group (EUAG) is publishing an NFV Testing and Automation White Paper to illustrate key insights on the state of NFV automated testing\, current gaps\, and industry recommendations. In this webinar\, industry experts from the EUAG: Beth Cohen\, Verizon; Lei Huang\, China Mobile; and Randy Levensalor\, CableLabs will discuss the white paper key findings and answer questions. \nLearn more and register.

SUMMARY:LFN Webinar: 5G Dynamic Network Slicing via Open Source Projects
DESCRIPTION:5G network slicing enables a single physical infrastructure to be partitioned into multiple virtual instances\, each optimized for the different needs of specific users. This opens up a new world of business opportunities for use cases like smart cities\, autonomous driving\, healthcare\, and more. This also allows for greater operational efficiencies to network operators for only deploying the functions required to support a specific customer. Network slicing also benefits Enterprises by expanding their services geographically\, creating private networks\, and deploying Edge services. Though network slicing is a common topic across the industry right now\, slicing implementations and discussion are often limited to eMBB\, mIOT and URLLC. The next step on the slicing journey is servicing dynamic network slices. \nIn this talk\, Srinivasa Addepalli\, Chief Principal Engineer\, Intel; and Tushar Doshi\, Technical Director\, Robin.io will discuss various use cases and deployment models for dynamic slices and explain how they enable Enterprises to deploy MEC services. They will dig further on slicing orchestration to automate dynamic slice life cycle management and discuss enhancements required in NFVO tools and platforms for managing resources to ensure that slice SLAs are satisfied. They will highlight the open source projects active in this space\, like K8s\, ONAP\, OpenNESS/EMCO\, and how they contribute to dynamic slicing orchestration and show to benefit from this innovation. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:LFN Webinar: VPP in your home lab? Yep. Right now.
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event will start at 8:00 AM Pacific Time. \nRegister Here. \nVector Packet Processing (VPP) enables astounding software packet processing. It represents where the world is heading for many packet processing needs across edge networking\, cloud native networking\, and 5G infrastructure. \nMany network engineers are aware of VPP\, but really don’t have a fast\, easy way to try it out for themselves\, just to see what it’s all about. But if they could\, who knows what they might do with it? \nGood news. There is a way to kick the VPP tires! \nOne of the companies that has integrated FD.io’s VPP into a high-performance software edge router solution is Netgate. Netgate has a free version of VPP\, ready to go as a product\, known as TNSR. TNSR integrates a number of open source projects – VPP\, DPDK\, FRR\, strongSwan and Clixon – into a ready to install\, configure and deploy high speed router. \nIn this webinar we will hear directly from three independent network engineers on how they got interested in VPP\, how quickly and easily they were able to install and test it for their needs\, and what outcome they achieved. \nVPP is for real. It is seeing rapid and broad commercial deployment. But it is still early. We at FD.io would like to see as many network engineers becoming familiar with it as possible! \nLearn how you can do this in your home or work lab – right now\, for free! \nIn this webinar\, Audian Paxson from Netgate will walk through how this is done while engaging with end users of the technology: Mike Jennings.
